U.S. News & World Report Gives Goodwin Living™ Health Care Centers Highest Ratings on the “2022 Best Nursing Homes” List

(Alexandria, Va.) – On Tuesday, November 15, 2022, U.S. News & World Report released its annual “Best Nursing Homes” list for 2022-23. Both Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads (GHBC) and Goodwin House Alexandria (GHA) received the highest ratings.

GHA and GHBC are Life Plan Communities that offer the full continuum of care, and each campus includes a Health Care Center that is licensed and evaluated as a nursing home. Goodwin Living provides long-term care and short-term skilled nursing and rehabilitation to residents at both of these health care centers. Short-term rehabilitation or post-acute care often involves physical therapy for residents following a hospitalization for surgery, heart attack, stroke, injury or other conditions. Long-term care is for residents who are no longer able to live independently and need medical supervision.

“We are honored to be named among the Best Nursing Homes in the U.S. alongside other purpose-driven organizations across the nation,” said Goodwin Living President and CEO Rob Liebreich. “Goodwin Living is grateful for our caring, dedicated team members who provide the highest quality care and service to the residents in our health care centers.”

To develop the “Best Nursing Homes” list, U.S. News reviewed more than 15,000 short-term and long-term nursing care centers throughout the country, covering every state and nearly 100 metropolitan areas. Out of all those evaluated, 2,426 (16%) centers received the “Best Nursing Home” distinction.

Since 2009, U.S. News has provided this service, relying on their own evaluation of data provided by the federal government including data collected by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS). CMS inspectors visit and assess nursing care centers annually to ensure the centers are following the federal standards. Through its own careful review of these assessments, U.S. News provides this list to serve as a resource for anyone who might be searching for this specialized care.

According to the U.S. News website, this year’s ratings were the first to feature measurements on weekend staffing and infection rates that led to hospitalizations. This newly available data provides even more information about how nursing homes rate when it comes to the safety of their residents. For the 2022-23 listings, GHA and GHBC each received the “High-Performing” rating in both the Short-Term Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care categories. “High-Performing” is the highest level of recognition offered.

“Every day our dedicated team members at Goodwin House Alexandria continue to uphold the Goodwin Living mission to support, honor and uplift the lives of older adults,” said Jackie Barbarito, Interim Administrator at Goodwin House Alexandria. “It’s an honor to see our work elevated by U.S. News.”

“We are proud to celebrate our hardworking, compassionate team members at Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads who offer our residents the highest level of care and service,” said Karen Doyle, Associate Executive Director of GHBC. “We are very grateful to see our commitment and service to older adults in the National Capital Region being recognized by U.S. News.”
