We’re proud of the work we do, and residents, family members and employees echo that in these personal testimonials they’ve shared with us.
Connect With Us to Learn MoreAfter moving in, I started walking the floors late in the evening most nights when I didn’t have a theater ticket. I enjoyed the walks, listening to my music, frequently singing along in the deserted halls. A typical walk: floors 6-1, twice each, and G, 4 times, for a total of 16 floors averaging 40 minutes per walk.
Sometime in 2021, I ceased walking due to worsening lower back pain. In the fall of 2022, I was diagnosed with multi-level degenerating disks and moderately severe arthritis in my spine. In December 2022 I began physical therapy with Lia in Goodwin Rehabilitation here at The View Alexandria, and in March 2022 I started treatment at the National Spine & Pain Center office in Alexandria.
Lia recently suggested I might be able to resume my walks using a walking stick. Tonight for the first time, I walked with my nifty new stick and my music. Yippee skippee! Tonight’s walk: floors 6-1, once each, and G, twice, for a total of 8 floors. 40 minutes.

I have chosen to give to the Foundation because Goodwin Living is a family. I specifically give to the Staff Funds because I believe in the employees. They are incredible people from all over the world who have overcome so many difficulties. I have seen the Foundation help provide education to many who report to me who are single mothers, first-generation college students and individuals trying to better their family situation. I am grateful the Foundation empowers Goodwin Living employees to follow the principle: Give a man a fish and feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime.

The house was getting to be too much for us. Ken had hip surgery, and before he’d completely recovered from that, we both got COVID. It was one thing on top of the other. Within days of our arrival, we knew this had been a good decision. It was like we were meant to be here.

What I like most about The View Alexandria is that it is large enough to have so many activities though small enough that you really get to know people.

Thank you so much for your care of [my spouse] during his last two months. It meant so much to me to have you with him and to explain to me what he was going through.

I want you to know how much we appreciated the attention and compassionate hospice care that you provided during our mother’s final days. It has been truly inspiring to observe and work with such a dedicated and effective team in action.

As a physician, I support, honor and uplift residents and families by providing medical care that involves them in shared medical decision-making with the goal of keeping the resident as comfortable and independent at home as possible.

Goodwin Living is special, most notably because of its mission: "Support, honor and uplift the lives of older adults and the people who care for them." I love my job because Goodwin Living cares about me and my professional growth. The tuition assistance benefit allows me to continue my education. I'm using it to obtain a degree in nursing.

For a number of years my husband and I contemplated a move to Goodwin Living. I prayed regularly for a positive outcome and surrendered to God’s will in the matter. Finally, early this year we received a call from Shannon Bishop. We took the apartment offered and moved in on May 25, 2017. Two months later we were offered our heart’s desire, the Rosslyn. I know God led us through all of the work involved in selling our home and moving in (twice)! Our residence here is a demonstration of God’s work in our lives and God’s love for us. We have truly found a home in Goodwin Living. And for me, it’s reassuring to know that I have good medical care available in my own home. Thank you, God, for Goodwin Living.

There is a wonderful old Protestant Hymn entitled "Great is Thy Faithfulness." While all the words may not be appropriate, the word, "faithful" is perhaps one that resonates with most residents. Goodwin Living has made us a promise that it never has, nor will it ever ask a resident to leave because of running out of funds. These words became a living reality to me when I found myself out of funds. The Foundation helped me re-organize my debts, and with my remaining limited income, feel less guilty about the fact that I could not continue to support others or organizations at the level I had in the past. Helping me with my financial issues while preserving my dignity was a wonderful experience.
Few things can be counted on not to change, and one of those things is the Foundation's support for residents. It's a wonderful feeling knowing Goodwin Living will be faithful to its pledge, and will continue to support residents collectively and individually. Because we understand this, maybe it's the reason so many of us participate and try to "give back" in every way we can, to contribute to the quality of life at Goodwin Living.

After a thorough exploration of our area’s retirement options, we decided we wanted to stay put in our beloved home of 32 years. After reviewing our finances and consulting with an elder care attorney, we found that the support and flexibility of Goodwin Living At Home was the best solution for our needs. Our membership began just over a year ago, and already we feel very much a part of this warm, caring and supportive community.

Enjoying life at home past the age of 100 has become the expectation in my family. As a member of Goodwin Living At Home, I can carry on the family tradition of aging in place. Should I ever need assistance, I know that Goodwin Living At Home will be right there with me, ensuring that my health and safety needs are met so I can continue living my life in the home I love.
