Diversity Equality Inclusion - January 15, 2021

Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Committee Statement on the Events that Occurred on January 6, 2021

Insurrection, white supremacy, racism, anti-Semitism and other forms of hatred were all on display at our nation’s Capitol on January 6, and we were horrified.

Our immediate response to such behavior by our fellow citizens is “This is not who we are!” But is that really true?

This country has harbored a long history of prejudice and hatred. This is, in fact, who we are. And we need to face it, own it and decide how WE – all of us – are going to change it.

What we saw is who we are, but it is not who we can be.

The Goodwin Living Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) Committee fosters diversity, equality and inclusion in our workplace as well as our broader communities. We stand firmly against hate in any form, and we celebrate the diversity that contributes to our nation’s beauty and potential.

The above statement was drafted and approved by the following members who were present during our January 13, 2021 meeting:

  • G. Theresa Thomas
  • Beth Robinson
  • Elizabeth Whitehouse
  • Reginald Edwards
  • Nathalia Salvatierra
  • Frank Wade
  • Todd Endo
  • Carol Lewis
