(Alexandria, Va.) – On Tuesday, November 14, 2023, U.S. News & World Report released its annual “Best Nursing Homes” list for 2023-24. Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads (GHBC) and Goodwin House Alexandria (GHA) each received the highest ratings in both short-term and long-term care.
“We are honored to have Goodwin House Alexandria and Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads once again named as ‘Best Nursing Homes’ by U.S. News & World Report,” said Rob Liebreich, Goodwin Living President and CEO. “We are especially grateful to the team members whose commitment to uplifting the lives of residents has resulted in both GHA and GHBC achieving this honor of inclusion on the ‘Best Nursing Homes’ list, as well as five consecutive annual 5-star Medicare ratings.”
GHA and GHBC are Life Plan Communities that offer the full continuum of care, and each campus includes a Health Care Center that is licensed and evaluated as a nursing home. Goodwin Living provides long-term care and short-term skilled nursing and rehabilitation to residents at both health care centers. Short-term rehabilitation or post-acute care often involves physical therapy for residents following a hospitalization for surgery, heart attack, stroke, injury or other conditions. Long-term care is for residents who are no longer able to live independently and need medical supervision. The GHBC Health Care Center serves 69 residents and the GHA Health Care Center serves 80 residents.
“For GHBC and GHA to be two of only three health care centers across Northern Virginia achieving the highest rankings for both short-term and long-term care is an extraordinary distinction and a recognition of our team members’ focus on everyday excellence,” said Chandra Kumar, Goodwin Living Chief Operating Officer. “Goodwin Living remains committed to fostering a talented team of health care professionals to provide the best care to older adults in Northern Virginia.”
U.S. News reviewed more than 15,000 short-term and long-term nursing care centers throughout the country, covering every state and nearly 100 metropolitan areas, to produce the rankings. Out of all those evaluated, 2,804 (19%) centers received the “Best Nursing Home” distinction.
Since 2009, U.S. News has provided this assessment and ranking, relying on their evaluation of data provided by the federal government, including data collected by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS). CMS inspectors visit and assess nursing care centers annually to ensure the centers are following the standards that are regulated by this federal agency. Through its careful review of these assessments, U.S. News provides this list to serve as a resource for anyone who might be searching for this specialized care. In 2018, U.S. News added a short-term rehabilitation ranking, and it added a long-term care rating in 2019.
