Campus Expansion Brings New, Innovative Health Care Center

Alexandria, VA – Goodwin House Incorporated (GHI) recently completed a multi-year, $70 million investment throughout its Goodwin House Alexandria campus. This investment created the new GHA Small House Health Care Center – the largest of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic. Other new features include dynamic common areas for dining and life enrichment, as well as a new state-of-the-art assisted living area called “The Dominion.”

Here is a quick overview of the GHA campus enhancements:

New Dining Options:

  • The Alexandria: a formal dining room open for dinner
  • The Bistro: a contemporary casual dining venue open throughout the day
  • The Fillmore Lounge: nestled against a small nature preserve, this contemporary casual space is available to residents throughout the day for lounging in front of the fire place and serves dinner each evening
  • The Fillmore Market: a market offering take-out foods and a range of high-end packaged cheeses, wines and appetizer foods and an assortment of chocolates and other sweets
  • The Club Room & The Private Dining Room: private spaces that can be reserved for special occasions and functions

New Life Enrichment Center where residents can expand their talents, their health and wellness and their sense of self:

  • Fitness Center filled with natural light, a range of modern cardio equipment and space for weight training and stretching
  • Group Exercise Studio with space for a wide range of classes, such as yoga, tai chi and balance
  • Art Studio where residents can express and expand their creative talents independently against floor to ceiling windows enhancing the flow of natural light – all in a group setting
    Additional Updates:
  • Enhancements and new decor for the main entry lobby, including a redesigned welcome and reception area
  • Facade restoration of both residential high-rise buildings
  • A new roof, air conditioning, boiler system and humidifier for The Tower building

GHA is one of two Life Plan Communities owned and operated by Goodwin House Incorporated. Approximately 450 older adults reside at GHA and contribute to the dynamic life in a Goodwin House community involving cultural arts, wellness and fitness programs, service opportunities and everyday resident life.
