Goodwin Home Health

Goodwin Living is proud to offer skilled nursing and therapy Home Health services. Our team provides high quality, individualized care that allows patients to regain their strength and independence, and to heal in the comfort of their own homes and retirement communities. Our services are Medicare-certified, and we also accept most forms of insurances. We serve patients throughout Northern Virginia, including Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William. We also provide home health services to residents at Goodwin House Alexandria, Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads and The View Alexandria.

In addition to the services that we provide, Goodwin Home Health will coordinate other services you might need as you make your recovery at home. For private nursing or caregiving services, we will refer you to our trusted home care partners.

Who qualifies for home health services?

Have you noticed a recent decline in your ability to perform daily tasks such as getting dressed or walking? Have you experienced frequent falls, been recently hospitalized or had onset of a new illness? Are you having trouble getting out of your home or apartment due to pain, limited mobility, shortness of breath or lack of balance? Our services may be right for you! Speak to your doctor to determine if home health services are needed. Physician referrals are required to receive home health services.


Skilled Nursing Care

Skilled Nursing Care

Our highly skilled nursing team of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and certified nursing assistants will create an individualized plan of care and offer support where you need it. Services include:

  • Congestive heart failure and respiratory programs
  • Disease management (Diabetes, COPD, CHF, Pneumonia, UTI, etc.)
  • Laboratory services
  • Medical case management
  • Education and training on drains,
    ostomies and tube feedings
  • IV antibiotic teaching and training
  • Vascular Access Management
  • Wound care/Wound VAC (Vacuum Assisted Closure)
  • Medication education/management

Therapy Services

Therapy Services

We offer in-home therapy visits for a range of needs, such as:

  • Physical therapy: provides gait, balance and safety assessments, as well as exercises to increase strength and endurance and improve mobility throughout the home environment.
  • Occupational therapy: provides training to help recover or maintain cognitive function and mobility for everyday living and independence, including activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, personal grooming, etc.) as well as meal prep and laundry. Specialties include home safety, upper body conditioning, postsurgical rehab, pelvic floor program, energy conservation, and LSVT BIG-Certified Therapy for Parkinson’s disease.
  • Speech-language therapy: provides training in language, voice and swallowing.

Medical Social Worker

Medical Social Worker Services

Certified medical social workers will work with patients and families to best meet their needs. Our social workers can provide the following help:

  • Advocating for the patient’s rights and needs
  • Assisting patients with setting up community resources and caregivers
  • Conducting regular home visits
  • Discussing goals of care

Home Health Aide

Home Health Aide

While receiving skilled nursing or therapy services from Goodwin Home Health, patients are also eligible for a home health aide, which is ideal for individuals who need some extra assistance, but still want to maintain their independence and quality of life.

Services from our Home Health Aides may include:

  • Shower assistance
  • Help with dressing
  • Grooming
  • Mouth care
  • Skin care

Become a Patient with Goodwin Home Health

If you are looking to use Goodwin Home Health services, you will need to submit a physician’s referral.

Please include the following documentation with all home health referrals:

  • Patient demographic sheet with patient’s full name, address where they receive home care services, and insurance information
  • Referring physician’s name and phone number
  • Physician order for needed home health services
  • Patient’s recent physician’s note, history and physical or hospital paperwork
