Resident Programs
The Goodwin Living Foundation is proud to serve Goodwin Living residents through confidential financial support. Since we welcomed our first resident in 1967, Goodwin Living has never asked someone to leave because they have exhausted their financial resources through no fault of their own. We are able to keep this commitment to residents and their families, thanks to our Resident Support Fund, which is fully funded by the Foundation.
Thanks to generous donors to the Foundation, we are also able to support the following resident programming at Goodwin Living:
- Sentimental Journey Singers – Offered at The View Alexandria, this program is designed to support residents with early to mid-stage cognitive change. Residents, along with their care partners, sing familiar songs and participate in music and movement games in a warm group setting to encourage connection through the power of music.
- Melody Makers – Offered at Goodwin House Alexandria and Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads, this program is designed to support residents with mid-stage to moderate-stage cognitive change. Sessions include vocal exercises, singing of rounds and partner songs, movement activities and opportunities for relationship-building.
- Encore Learning Memberships – The Goodwin Living Foundation covers the memberships for Encore Learning, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that offers a wide variety of college-level noncredit courses, specialty clubs, wide-ranging special events and enjoyable social activities. Through courses and other activities, residents explore and share new ideas and develop new friendships inside and outside of classrooms.
- Therapeutic Animal & Equine Encounter – Barbara Bolin, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), visits Goodwin House Alexandria and Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads monthly with various farm animals. Residents from all levels of living (Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Support and Nursing Care) turn out for the visits, along with many team members and even residents’ friends and families. The Therapeutic Equine Encounter Program, offered at Cloverleaf Equine Services Center, sparks engagement and connection with horses for residents living with dementia, anxiety and other challenges. The sessions are designed to help participants be in the moment and practice self-awareness.
- Horticultural Therapy – Horticultural therapy programming offers residents with Alzheimer’s and other dementias a connection to nature that supports meaningful engagement through evidence-based therapeutic horticulture classes. Each campus has two indoor gardening boxes and an instructor who visits and engages with residents in meaningful ways through innovative gardening activities.
With your donation, we can continue to support Goodwin Living residents for years to come.
