Lloyd Moss

Lloyd spends his days doing what he enjoys most, such as volunteering for ALIVE!, an organization dedicated to fighting poverty and hunger in the City of Alexandria. He also enjoys watching online news from Germany, where he began his career in the foreign service.

Shortly after moving to The View Alexandria, Lloyd began volunteering at ALIVE’s new distribution hub in Del Ray. He is certainly appreciated at The View Alexandria for his global knowledge as well as his local heart.

“I am addicted to German news given my career launch in Berlin,” he said, “And I am grateful to be able to support such a wonderful local organization as ALIVE.”

Ken and Peg Miller

Ken and Peg Miller

Ken and Peg were finding it harder to handle their home in Ashburn, Virginia. Then Ken had hip surgery, and they both got COVID. It was one thing on top of the other.

Seeking to be closer to their adult children, the Millers explored several senior living communities in and around Alexandria. The View Alexandria had the best options for them, and the transition was easy.

“Within days of our arrival, we knew this had been a good decision,” said Ken. “It was like we were meant to be here,” Peg agreed.

Pyra is constantly in motion as she plans events and classes that help residents explore their creative side.

Drawing on her career in illustration that included 11 years using colored pencils to design promotional signs for Trader Joe’s, Pyra teaches a well-attended class at The View Alexandria. The class is aptly named “Pencils with Pyra.”

“What I like most about The View Alexandria is that it’s large enough to have so many activities, yet small enough that you really get to know people,” she said.

Norma-Jean Lawton

Norma-Jean’s face lights up when she’s discussing her favorite topics of music, art and learning. She has a passion for organizing activities, and leads two sessions each week.

She begins with a video lecture from The Great Course, then she leads other residents in a discussion about what they learned. Currently, Norma-Jean is guiding residents through a 24-lecture course titled “The Agency: The History of the CIA.”

“This course has been very popular, attracting more residents each week,” said Norma-Jean with a twinkle in her eye. “You know, everybody has a background here in Washington.”
