Today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision on Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian and Syrian immigrants is deeply disappointing to Goodwin Living.
This decision means that hundreds of thousands of people who have entered the U.S. legally, been employed legally, and uplifted countless older adults will see their lives destabilized. It means that older adults in senior living communities and homes across the U.S. will lose trusted caregivers. And it means that we will have fewer workers to care for our nation’s older adults when they are most in need of that support.
And yet, Goodwin Living is not deterred in lifting up the need for immigrants to serve in the field of senior living and health care. We are also not deterred in supporting those who are here legally and working legally to find pathways to naturalization and sustainability in the U.S.
We will continue collaborating with LeadingAge, the American Business Immigration Coalition, and the We Care for Seniors Coalition to protect TPS holders and preserve protections for immigrant care workers.
We are deeply grateful for the dedication and courage of these workers who continue serving older adults amid this uncertainty.
