At Goodwin Rehabilitation, innovation is at the heart of everything we do. To ensure that our Goodwin Living patients receive the most engaging, effective and personalized care possible, we’re always exploring new ways to support their physical and emotional well-being. Our mission is to help residents relieve stress and tension that can build up over time.
To further support this vision, Goodwin Rehabilitation has introduced a punching bag in the fitness center to allow patients to stay active while releasing that built-up tension in a fun, healthy way. This unique addition not only promotes movement and strength but also brings a refreshing element of play and empowerment to our wellness environment.
When Rehab Technician Kiyoko Posey introduced the punching bag to the rehab team at The View Alexandria (TVA), it quickly became a favorite part of the rehab routine. With gloves on and punches flying, the bag wasn’t just a tool for physical therapy; it became a source of energy, confidence and connection.
A Resident Favorite | Bringing Joy Through Movement

Goodwin Rehabilitation Technician Kiyoko Posey (right) made it easy for residents and team members to embrace the addition of the punching bag. Many have shared their appreciation for the energy and fun it brings to their routine.
“I love it and want to take it home!” said TVA resident Pyra Shapero, sharing her enthusiasm. During her rounds on campus, Kiyoko Posey often finds residents actively using the punching bag in the fitness center, engaged, smiling and clearly enjoying themselves. “It has become a valued part of our wellness environment,” Kiyoko said. What began as a simple wellness resource has quickly become a valued part of our community’s health and wellness environment, promoting both physical activity and positive energy. The punching bag encourages residents to stay active in a way that feels playful and empowering, proving that wellness can be both effective and enjoyable at any age.
The Minds Behind the Bag: The Team Members Who Made It Happen
As Rehab Technician, Kiyoko Posey provides personal training services to residents at TVA as well as Goodwin Living At Home members. Her focus areas include improving cardiovascular health, building strength through resistance training and enhancing flexibility and mobility, key components of maintaining independence and vitality as we age. Therapy Manager Lia Poyner selected the bag and had it assembled for installment in the fitness center, further supporting Kiyoko’s work to enhance residents’ fitness experiences.
In addition to her innovative contributions at Goodwin Living, Kiyoko is also a Certified Nutrition Specialist, allowing her to provide evidence-based guidance to support residents’ overall wellness goals. With a unique blend of clinical knowledge and lived experience as a retired bodybuilder with five years of competitive training, she brings a deep understanding of the connection between physical performance, recovery and nutrition. Her holistic approach continues to inspire residents to stay active, fuel their bodies mindfully and embrace wellness at every stage of life.
Comprehensive Care | The Variety of Therapies We Offer
Goodwin Rehabilitation provides a variety of advanced therapy options, including exclusive use of the GaitBetter system, a virtual-reality treadmill that analyzes walking patters and helps patients improve balance, coordination, and mobility through real-time feedback and immersive training.
Another important service is Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT), a specialized treatment designed to address dizziness and balance issues caused by disorders of the inner ear or the brain’s balance system. Through proven techniques and personalized exercises, VRT helps residents enhance stability, reduce the risk of falls and regain confidence in their daily movements.
We also utilize Vitala, a real-time biofeedback system that supports improvements in strength, coordination, and endurance through guided motion exercises. This technology enables residents to engage actively in their recovery while receiving immediate feedback to optimize their performance and progress.
