Dear Goodwin Living Family,
Our hearts are heavy with the news of the U.S. Supreme Court decision today on Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian and Syrian immigrants. In the cases of Mullin v. Doe and Trump v. Miot, the Supreme Court ruled against delays to ending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for immigrants with this status from both countries.
This decision means that hundreds of thousands of people who have entered the U.S. legally, been employed legally and uplifted countless older adults will see their lives destabilized. It means that the older adults they care for in retirement communities and homes across the U.S. will lose their trusted caregivers. And it means that we will have fewer workers to care for our nation’s older adults when they are most in need of that support.
While our hearts are disappointed, we are not deterred in lifting up the need for immigrants to serve in the field of senior living and health care. We are not deterred in our efforts to support those who are here legally and working legally to find pathways to naturalization and sustainability in the U.S.
Goodwin Living is grateful to the residents of our retirement communities who have steadfastly advocated for immigrant team members. We are also in awe of the courage of so many immigrant team members who persevere in their service amidst these uncertain times.
We will continue to work with our national association, LeadingAge, the American Business Immigration Coalition and the We Care for Seniors Coalition to protect TPS holders and preserve protections for immigrant care workers.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you Goodwin Living residents, for the love and support you extend to all our team members every day. Thank you, Goodwin Living team members, for your dedicated service to our mission.
Stronger together,
Rob
