(Alexandria, VA) Goodwin Living™, a faith-based, not-for-profit senior living and health care services organization in the National Capital Region, has once again earned recognition from the Virginia Talent + Opportunity Partnership (V-TOP) as one of Virginia’s Top Employers for Interns. This marks the fourth consecutive year that Goodwin Living has received this honor for a high-quality, mission-driven internship program.
Goodwin Living remains the only senior living organization in Northern Virginia to receive this designation, joining a select group of employers across the Commonwealth who are helping shape the next generation of leaders through immersive and supportive internship experiences.
“High-quality internships are among the most effective ways to connect education to opportunity,” said Alisha Bazemore. “These employers are not only investing in students, but they are also enhancing Virginia’s workforce by providing meaningful, hands-on experiences that prepare learners to succeed and lead in a rapidly evolving economy.”
The Goodwin Living internship program, led by Team Member Engagement and Outreach Manager Catie Ramos, provides paid, non-clinical roles to high school and college students interested in exploring careers in senior living and health care.
Since launching in March 2022, the program has introduced 138 students to a wide range of non-clinical career paths across the organization. Interns gain experience in departments including Marketing and Communications, Brain Health, Health Administration and more. Funded by the generosity of donors to the Goodwin Living Foundation, the Goodwin Living internship program offers four seasonal cohorts each year.
To date, 18 interns have joined Goodwin Living as team members, reflecting the program’s role in strengthening the long-term workforce pipeline.
“It is an honor to receive this recognition for the fourth consecutive time,” said Catie Ramos, Team Member Engagement and Outreach Manager. “Over the past year, the growth of the program and new partnerships have further demonstrated a commitment to workforce development by expanding meaningful, high-quality opportunities for interns to explore careers in senior living and healthcare services.”
“Interns play an important role in strengthening our organization and the future of our workforce,” said Rob Liebreich, President and CEO of Goodwin Living. “We see firsthand how these experiences build confidence, skills and purpose. We are proud to invest in the next generation of leaders and grateful to V-TOP for this recognition.”
Interns at Goodwin Living participate in professional development workshops led by senior leaders and contribute to hands-on projects across the organization. The program emphasizes community, mentorship and equity, earning strong feedback from past interns and education leaders. Each intern is paired with a resident mentor from one of the Goodwin Living campuses, creating meaningful intergenerational relationships that offer connection, insight and encouragement.
As part of Goodwin Living’s commitment to supporting young people in exploring career pathways, the organization published an Internship Playbook. This complimentary resource helps other organizations build successful internship programs and is available on the Goodwin Living website.
The V-TOP award is part of Virginia’s celebration of Intern Day, established by proclamation of Glenn Youngkin, which honors employers and students contributing to work-based learning across the Commonwealth.
V-TOP is administered by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia in collaboration with the Virginia Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the Virginia Business Higher Education Council and is supported by the General Assembly’s Commonwealth Innovative Internship Fund and Program.
