Award recognizes Freiman’s leadership, innovation and dedication to enhancing nutrition and dining experiences for older adults

Alexandria, Va. — Goodwin Living™, a leader in senior living and healthcare dining operations, is proud to announce that our very own Alexandra (Alex) Freiman, Registered Dietitian at Goodwin House Alexandria, has been named the 2025 Dietitian of the Year by the Senior Dining Association (SDA). In recognizing Freiman with this honor, SDA noted her exceptional commitment to improving nutritional care for older adults.

The Senior Dining Association’s Dietitian of the Year Award highlights a consummate professional who has demonstrated innovation, leadership and measurable impact in the field of senior dining and nutrition services. Freiman was selected for her collaborative approach to nutrition and dining services at Goodwin Living, where she works closely with culinary teams, residents and interdisciplinary care partners to ensure every meal supports both health and enjoyment.

In the words of Cathy Farmer, Director of Clinical Services at Goodwin Living, “I have been in long-term care for more than 40 years, and I have worked with a variety of dietitians. Many were excellent, but Alex is the best dietitian I’ve had the pleasure of working with. She is holistic in her approach and considers everything about the resident.” Brian Patterson, Culinary Innovation and Development Chef at Goodwin Living adds, “Alex is a dream collaborator in designing recipes and menus as well as special events across all communities.”

During her time at Goodwin Living, Freiman has helped strengthen the organization’s holistic approach to wellness by aligning nutritious menu development with resident preferences, implementing creative dining experiences and providing ongoing education about nutrition’s role in healthy aging. She has helped launch such initiatives as resident-led menu feedback, continuous kitchen audit programs and tasting events. Her leadership has made a lasting impact on the Goodwin Living mission to support, honor and uplift the lives of older adults and those who care for them.

In the broader community, Freiman has served as the President of The Virginia Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In this role, she led the execution of strategic plans and fostered professional growth among local dietitians.
