Partnership Will Help Culpepper Garden Residents Retain Ability to Live in Their Own Apartment Safely

Arlington, VA. – Today, Culpepper Garden, the largest low-income retirement community in the National Capital Region (NCR) with 346 apartments, announced that it has selected Goodwin Rehabilitation to establish a therapy and exercise program on-site at its Arlington, VA, retirement community. In service to low-income older adults since 1975, Culpepper Garden provides and advocates for high-quality, affordable housing, services and programs that allow older adults on fixed and very low incomes to age with comfort and dignity. Goodwin Rehab is the full-service therapy agency owned and operated by Goodwin Living, a faith-based not for profit senior living and health care organization serving 4,000 older adults across the NCR.

“At a time when government support is receding for low-income older adults, Culpepper Garden is grateful to be welcoming Goodwin Rehab to our community to uplift the several hundred older adults who call Culpepper Garden ‘home’,” said Marta Hill Gray, President. “The convenience of on-site therapy services and exercise programming will help our residents be able to remain in their apartment homes longer and retain quality of life and well-being.”

“Goodwin Rehab is honored and grateful to be in service to the residents of Culpepper Garden and bring our exceptional rehab professionals and technology resources to support them in maintaining strength, mobility and independence,” said Melinda Gren, DPT, Vice President of Performance and Operations, Goodwin Living Health. “Goodwin Rehab will provide personalized physical therapy at Culpepper Garden as well as specialty programs such as fall prevention and vestibular rehabilitation and rehabilitation protocols for joint replacement, fractures, CVA, cardiac, pulmonary, dysphagia and more.

Goodwin Rehabilitation is in-network with Medicare, several Medicare Advantage plans and select Medicaid plans and provides outpatient rehab services at its location at 5000 Fairbanks Avenue in the West End of Alexandria. It was the first provider to introduce Vitala, an innovative technology platform that supports guided exercise, progress tracking and ongoing therapist oversight to Northern Virginia.

Group exercise classes at Culpepper Garden focus on strength, balance and flexibility to support overall health and wellness while addressing the areas where older adults most commonly experience challenges. Classes will routinely be modified to reflect the needs, abilities and preferences of participants and may be adjusted seasonally. Seasonal offerings will include outdoor walking groups, emphasizing the benefits of fresh air, sunshine and varied terrain to enhance physical function and overall well-being.

Culpepper Garden and Goodwin Rehab will host an open house this spring for referral partners, and government officials and local media to see this dynamic new partnership in action.
