(Alexandria, Va.) – On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, U.S. News & World Report released its annual “Best Nursing Homes” list for 2025. Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads (GHBC) and Goodwin House Alexandria (GHA) each received the “High-Performing” rating in both the Short-Term Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care categories. The “High-Performing” rating is the top distinction awarded by U.S. News & World Report and signifies superior quality in various measures, including patient safety, health inspection outcomes and staffing. The GHA and GHBC Health Care Centers represent two of the seven nursing homes in Northern Virginia to attain “High-Performing” ratings for both Short-Term Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care.
“We are grateful that the health care centers at Goodwin House Alexandria and Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads have once again been named ‘Best Nursing Homes’ by U.S. News & World Report. We consider this a testament to the exceptional commitment of our team members, who continually strive to enhance quality of life for residents and their loved ones,” said Rob Liebreich, Goodwin Living President and CEO. “Receiving this honor seven years in a row affirms our ongoing priority to deliver excellence in all we do across our senior living campuses and in our home and community based services.”
As Life Plan Communities, GHA and GHBC both offer the full continuum of care, and each campus includes a Health Care Center that is licensed and evaluated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services as a nursing home. Goodwin Living provides long-term care and short-term skilled nursing and rehabilitation at both health care centers. Short-term rehabilitation or post-acute care often involves physical therapy for patients following a hospitalization for surgery, heart attack, stroke, injury or other conditions. Long-term care is for those who are no longer able to live independently and need medical supervision. The GHBC Health Care Center serves up to 69 residents and the GHA Health Care Center serves up to 80 residents.
“The health care centers at GHA and GHBC consistently prioritize innovative, person-centered care practices designed to meet the diverse needs of both long-term residents and short-term patients,” said Chandra Kumar, Goodwin Living Chief Operating Officer. “We are incredibly proud of our team members for their dedication to the Goodwin Living mission to support, honor and uplift the lives of older adults through comprehensive, high-quality care.”
U.S. News reviewed nearly 15,000 short-term and long-term nursing care centers throughout the country to produce the rankings. Out of all those evaluated, 2,836 (19%) centers received the “Best Nursing Home” distinction.
Since 2009, U.S. News & World Report has assessed and ranked nursing care centers by evaluating data collected by the federal government, specifically through information gathered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Each year, CMS conducts inspections at nursing care facilities to confirm compliance with federal standards. U.S. News draws on these evaluations to offer a valuable resource for those seeking high-quality nursing care. In recent years, U.S. News has expanded its ratings, introducing a ranking for short-term rehabilitation in 2018 and adding a long-term care category in 2019.
