Alexandria, VA – A member of Goodwin House Inc. joined the Board of Directors for Encore Creativity in September, 2021. Goodwin House Alexandria Administrator of Assisted Living and Memory Support Jackie Barbarito was presented by Board President Dr. Anthony (Tony) Tambasco and voted in unanimously. Dr. Tambasco is also a resident of Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads and a member of the Goodwin House Board of Trustees.
“It is time to expand the board and to be creative,” said Tambasco. “We selected Jackie because she will bring talents in the health field where we want to expand our footprint, working especially with adults challenged by dementia. We also want creativity in growing in both diversity and geography, and Jackie has been singled out as a young leader to watch for the future.”
With more than 2,000 members, Encore is the nation’s largest chorale organization for adults over the age of 55. They provide friendly, educational and artistic platforms for older adults to learn and share their musical talents. Recently, Encore has grown to 22 local chorales that professionally train older adults across Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. Dozens of older adults within the Goodwin House Life Plan Communities are pleased to participate in Encore’s programs each year, especially as the holiday season approaches.
The history between Encore and Goodwin House stretches back decades. Encore’s Founder, Jeanne Kelley, conducted a peer reviewed study in 2001 on The Impact of Professionally Conducted Cultural Programs on the Physical Health, Mental Health and Social Functioning of Older Adults. Goodwin House provided the first chorales for Jeanne to work with, and after years of seeing the positive effect of music on older adults she founded Encore Creativity in 2007. Goodwin House is pleased to continue to support Encore in their mission.
As a member of the board, Jackie plays a crucial role in strengthening the partnership between Encore and Goodwin House, steering Encore towards a sustainable future and fulfilling the mission of Goodwin House.
