Alexandria, Va.— Goodwin Living is proud to announce that Cathy Farmer, Director of Clinical Services at Goodwin House Alexandria, has been named a 2024 Veteran VIP Honoree for Women of Distinction by McKnight’s. This prestigious award recognizes women who have dedicated more than 15 years to making a significant impact in long-term care, specifically highlighting those in positions below the vice president level. McKnight’s Senior Living is a national media brand providing news, perspective and analysis for owners, operators and other leaders of senior housing and health care services.
In awarding Farmer this national honor, McKnight’s wrote “Dedication, quick thinking and a passion for helping others all are important skills for people working in senior living, and Cathy Farmer happens to be a model of all three.”

With a career at Goodwin Living spanning 25 years, Farmer has been in her current role at Goodwin House Alexandria since 2018. Her dedication to person-centered care and her innovative strategies have improved the quality of life for countless residents. Farmer’s contributions extend beyond her immediate role, as she actively mentors team members and fosters a culture of continuous improvement and compassion within the community.
“I am honored to receive McKnight’s Women of Distinction Veteran’s award,” said Farmer. “My career has been so fulfilling and I am grateful for the support of my colleagues and the leadership at Goodwin House Alexandria.
