Alexandria, VA – Goodwin House Incorporated (GHI) has been named one of The Washington Post’s 2019 Top Workplaces in the Washington, D.C. area, and ranked 7th on the list of organizations receiving a Top Workplace designation. Selection is based solely on employee feedback gathered through an anonymous third-party survey administered by research partner Energage, LLC, which measured several aspects of workplace culture, including alignment, execution, and connection. Of the 347 employers that participated in the survey, fewer than half – 152 – received the designation. This year’s list honors government contractors, law firms, nonprofits, schools and businesses.
“Now in its sixth year, The Post’s Top Workplaces list continues to reflect companies in the region that cultivate a connection with their workforce,” said Washington Post Top Workplaces editor Dion Haynes. “It’s clear from the survey that these organizations share a commitment to providing support and an environment that makes employees feel valued and respected.”
“The Goodwin House mission is focused on those we serve and those who serve,” said Kathleen S. Anderson, President & CEO. “It is a tremendous honor to be a 2019 Washington Post top workplace and a double honor that our diverse and engaged employees are so positive and passionate about our culture and mission to support, honor and uplift older adults and those who serve them.”
GHI is the 22nd largest employer in Alexandria according to the Virginia Employment Commission, and is a leader in aging services across the region. Hallmarks of GHI as an employer are its commitments to workforce diversity and employee development and programming. GHI employs 890 employees who represent 60 nationalities, ranging in age from 17 to 79. In 2018-19, GHI supported the citizenship fees for 28 employees and close to $200,000 in tuition assistance.
The Washington Post hosted an awards ceremony on Thursday, June 20 to recognize the top-ranked companies. For more about The Washington Post’s Top Workplaces and to see the full list of this year’s honorees, visit https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2019/business/top-workplaces/.
